This walk discovers some of the historic events, buildings, villages and landscapes that remain close to the developed town of Valongo, as well as exploring the nwe plantings within the vineyard.

Starting in the car park adjacente to the Adega the walk soon passes a unique circular covered treadmill, that was once powered by a harnessed ox. Going along old lanes to the village of Ferreira, several buildings date from the mid 19yh century. The second mil you se eis a 19th century watermill at Pinguela, and i tis still occassionally used.

Following old tracks between small traditional strip fields, the route takes you to the third and most important mil on the walk, at the bridge at Ponte Ferreira, the site of the Battle of Ponte Ferreira, fought on 22-23 July 1832. This was the first major battle of the Portuguese Civil War. Leaving the waterside park the route climbs back to vineyard where extensive new planting has been undertaken and na overview of the entire route can be enjoyed before returning to the Adega and the opportunity to taste wine and buy some to take home.

Usually, every month on the second Saturday, Quinta das Arcas organizes a group walk on its trail. In the end, Quinta das Arcas offers a wine.

The walk has a social aspect every month and the value of the registration reverts in full to the institution concerned.

The walks start at 9:00am
